On Monday, March 30, we had the opportunity to visit Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, and along with it snag some season passes for the 2015 season. As it was Spring Break, we expected large crowds, but there was just the opposite. Every single ride was a walk-on, and props to Six Flags for running two trains on everything.
While definitely not the best Six Flags park, this one is very unique in the fact that many animal shows and attractions take place at the park. This enhances the overall park experience. For almost everybody, your day will start across the lake at the parking lot, where some great views of the skyline are:
There is a long walk to the entrance, but luckily, a tram service is in place. As always, we headed to Superman: Ultimate Flight for the first ride of the day:
The slow barrel roll is a feeling that everyone should experience!
The best way to see this is from ROAR!:
Moving on to one of our personal favorites, ROAR!:
This is a very thrilling coaster with only one distinct rough spot. I really like the twister beginning:
Sadly, V2: Vertical Velocity was closed all day for Non-Destructive Testing (NDT). The trains were not on the tracks and my guess is that it won't be open for a week or more. Moving on, we rode my favorite ride in the park, Medusa:
This is a very, very smooth coaster with a surprisingly good drop:
I really love the views you can get of this coaster:
From the queue from SkyScreamer is the best place:
Speaking of SkyScreamer, I really wish more parks had these, they are a blast! And the one at this park feels incomplete, due to the local height restriction of 150 ft:
We also took two spins on Cobra, the family Zierer double figure-8 coaster:
This is a very loud coaster:
Construction for Six Flags' new ride for 2015, Dare Devil Dive Coaster (EWW) is well underway. As far as I could tell, there were no parts on site, but the ground was cleared and the foundation was finished. So if you are traveling to the park soon, let us know of any updates; hopefully vertical construction will start soon:
Nerd shot!:
Even though Kong, the SLC, had no lines all day, we didn't ride due to the roughness. This ride is totally unbearable. Riders coming off have bruised ears and intense headaches. Six Flags should take this out and save us. The ride is unpopular with the public; even on busy days, the ride has no line:
We are going to leave you on this update with some awesome views of Medusa's awesomeness!
That's all for this update. With our season pass, expect more updates from us soon!
