Roller Coasters seem to be all the rage. However, flat rides and attractions can be just as fun, if not more fun. In honor of the New NoLimits 2 update featuring brand new flat rides, we decided to rank our 7 favorite flat rides! (Note: these are in no particular order)
These recent installations at various Six Flags parks by amusement ride designer FunTime provide a lift on the traditional amusement park swing. Lifting you up to 400 feet in the air, spinning at 30mph is quite the experience. Unfortunately, there have been rumors circling that Six Flags' partnership with FunTime is over, and we won't be seeing any SkyScreamers anytime soon. This is only a rumor however, and nothing is confirmed.
5. Skyhawk, Cedar PointThis ride focuses on one thing: airtime. And lots of it. This is a Screamin' Swing manufactured by S&S Power. The two arms swing up to 125 feet off the ground traveling at 65mph. This ride While the Cedar Point model is a clone, it is the only one I've been on. | 6. Lex Luthor/ZumanjaroAs Lex Luthor Drop of Doom and Zumanjaro: Drop of Doom are basically the same ride (Zumanjaro is taller by 15 feet), they will be grouped together for the purposes of this countdown. These are the two tallest drop towers in the world. Both stand over 400 feet tall and drop you at an excess of 85mph. When building Zumanjaro, designers had to add 226,000 pounds of added structural supports to the back of the tower. |
3. Harry potter and the Forbidden Journey, Universal Studios OrlandoHarry Potter and the Forbidden Journey is a motion based dark ride located at Universal Studios in Orlando, FL. The ride uses robocoaster technology, which allows the seats to pivot while being held above the track by a robotic arm. This attraction features a exciting storyline based to the famous books, and is told through animatronics, projections, and set pieces. 1. Tower of Terror, Disney's Hollywood StudiosThis is the pinnacle of innovation and thrills put into one ride. The combination of extreme thrills and extremely beautiful theming and design rockets this ride to the top of all thrill rides. Guests enter the cursed hotel, which is decorated to look old and run down. Guests are then shown a pre-ride film to set the mood and backstory. They then walk to one of 4 service elevators that will take them through the tower. After more show elements, the elevators travel forward in a "Fifth dimension" scene towards the drop towers. After a random sequence of drops, the elevators then return to the normal world to drop off the passengers before picking up new ones. This ride is the original, however clones have been made for other Disney parks, but without the "Fifth dimension" scene. | 4. Indiana Jones Adventure, DisneylandWhen this attraction opened in March of 1995 after 15 years of design and planning. Riders walk through a half mile, elaborately themed queue before arriving at the loading platform. Once there, riders embark on enhanced motion vehicles and travel at 14mph through 2500 feet of track, featuring many advanced special effects and audio-animatronics. SCAD Drop Tower, Tivoli FrihedenThis may be the scariest thrill ride ever. On most rides, there is a vehicle or track that you ride in or on. But not this one. There is no track or guide other than gravity. You are hoisted by elevator to the top of the tower, then dropped in a total free fall into a net at the bottom. |
